Tips on Outdoor Wall Lights

1. Wall-mounted light fixtures should be mounted about 5.5 feet above the wall base, or just above eye level. Placement at this height provides the best ambient light.

2. Flood lights fill an entire yard or patio with light, while spotlights serve to highlight specific areas. Both are excellent safety features for any home. Many models can be triggered by motion, deterring would-be intruders.

3. In recent years, there has been a significant loss of the natural nighttime sky. Some cities have made it their mission to protect the night sky's beauty by passing Dark Sky ordinances.

4. Many outdoor lamp models are available with Dark Sky feature options. Dark Sky-compliant lighting fixtures reduce glare and contrast, which improves visibility, and eliminate wasted light, which conserves energy, fuel, and resources.

5. Photocell, or "Dusk to Dawn", models have an internal photo sensor that detects the amount of light in its surroundings. Depending on an increase or decrease of sunlight, the sensor prompts the light to turn on or off automatically.

6. ENERGY STAR-qualified lighting is efficient and high-performance, providing bright, warm light as needed. Additionally, Energy Star lighting uses about 75% less energy, produces 75% less heat, and lasts up to 10 times longer than standard lighting.

7. Wall lanterns come in a range of sizes. They are easy to mount, and add a decorative, warm touch to doors, windows, or porches.
