Outdoor Lighting and Decorating Your Home
Let's face it. Unless you are among the lucky few who could design and build your dream home, you've got to do some tweaking to get it looking its best. Inside and out, top to bottom, your home is a representation of the kind of person you are. Clearly, here we are going to deal with the problem of the exterior; often overlooked, but always the first seen, your outdoor lighting makes the face of your home.

Envision where you can double the use out of a light. If you don't have the money for or interest in installing safety lighting on your walkways, position a pendant light or wall lights that could illuminate both the landscape and the walkways. Path lights, railing lights, and step lights can also be used to shine on your bushes and flower gardens as well. It's all how you use them.
Common Sense
Be courteous, too. Many people, when designing outdoor lighting themselves, choose to illuminate their landscaping they worked so hard on. Fair enough, but don't do it with flood lights shooting from the eaves of your home. Try to face brighter lights toward your home so as not to distract drivers or neighbors at night. Plus, it just looks better. Any light source facing the street should be relatively soft and not focused, like a post light.
